Collective fast-breaking: a moment of interfaith dialogue and fraternity

Niamey, 19 March 2025 – In a spirit of peace and social cohesion, a collective fast-breaking brought together Christian, Muslim and Baha'i religious leaders yesterday at the Noom Hotel. This event, organized by the National Committee for Intra- and Interreligious Dialogue (CDIR Niger), was held under the high patronage of the Minister of the Interior and Public Security, with the Deputy Secretary General (SGA) of the ministry in attendance.

The meeting also brought together the deputy administrators of Niamey's five communes, religious leaders of all faiths, and officials from several partner organizations, notably World Vision, the High Authority for the Consolidation of Peace (HACP), Peace Nexus, SOS Civisme and Caritas Développement (CADEV Niger), represented by its National Executive Secretary and the Director of the Niamey Diocesan Office.

After words of welcome and thanks from the coordinator of CDIR Niger, Cheikh Barham Aboubacar, he presented the actions carried out by the committee in support of interreligious dialogue and the promotion of peace. The Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of the Interior then spoke on behalf of the minister, who was traveling, to congratulate CDIR on this praiseworthy initiative, underlining its importance in strengthening social cohesion and preventing community conflicts. The Secretary General of the HACP also expressed his support for these actions, which foster harmony among the different communities.

The ceremony concluded with prayers and blessings given by Mgr Laurent Lompo, Archbishop of Niamey, Cheikh Sita Amadou representing the Muslim community, as well as other religious leaders present. This moment of communion and sharing reaffirmed the commitment of all stakeholders to continue their efforts for peace and living together in Niger.
