Mamans Lumière Better Trained to Protect the Health of Children and Families

As part of its efforts to support community well-being, the Ayorou and Niamey Communities Resilience Support Programme (PARCAN) organized a series of training sessions in Niamey and Ayorou on nutrition and first aid from 5 to 7 May 2026.
Nutrition and Essential Family Practices at the Heart of the Discussions
On Tuesday 5 May 2026, a refresher session on Infant and Young Child Feeding (ANJE) and on Essential Family Practices (PFE) was held simultaneously in Niamey and Ayorou.
The sessions were led by the DRS/HP of Niamey and the Ayorou health district, with the participation of: ✅ 22 Mamans Lumière from the Niamey 2 and Niamey 5 health districts, ✅ 15 Mamans Lumière from Ayorou, ✅ 2 representatives from the CSD of Banifandou and Harobanda.
This training helped strengthen participants’ knowledge of good nutrition practices and the essential behaviours that support children’s health and development.
First Aid Skills to Save Lives
On 6 and 7 May 2026, the second phase of the training focused on first aid for the benefit of Mamans Lumière from Niamey 2, Niamey 5 and Ayorou.
In Niamey, the session was led by an international first aid representative from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, assisted by a colleague.
During this hands-on training, participants learned: 🩹 life-saving actions in the event of an accident, 🫀 essential responses to emergencies, 🤝 rapid intervention techniques in accordance with the six guiding principles of first aid.
Practical exercises enabled the Mamans Lumière to strengthen their ability to act effectively to protect lives within their communities.
✨ Through these trainings, PARCAN continues to invest in women as genuine agents of community change, capable of promoting health, preventing risks and supporting families toward greater resilience.
