CADEV Niger Strengthens the Capacities of PARCAN Programme Beneficiaries on Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults

As part of efforts to protect the rights of vulnerable people, Caritas Développement (CADEV) Niger organized a training on the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults on 5 February 2025 for the benefit of beneficiaries of the Ayorou and Niamey Communities Resilience Support Programme (PARCAN)

A Commitment to Protecting the Most Vulnerable!

This training aims to strengthen beneficiaries’ capacity to prevent abuse, exploitation and any form of mistreatment affecting vulnerable populations, particularly children and people in situations of vulnerability.

Participants were made aware of:

• The fundamental principles of safeguarding and protection for children and vulnerable adults;
• The different forms of violence and their consequences for victims and communities;
• The importance of creating a protective and caring environment within communities;
• Reporting mechanisms and complaint-handling procedures in the event of a breach of safeguarding principles.

Complaint Procedures and Management: A Secure and Accessible System!

An important part of the training was devoted to the establishment of safe and accessible mechanisms for reporting cases of mistreatment. Participants were trained on reporting and complaint-management procedures, including:

• Reporting channels: the establishment of focal points, secure complaint boxes, emergency numbers and reporting platforms;
• Confidentiality and victim protection: ensuring that complaints are handled discreetly and without reprisals against victims and witnesses;
• The stages of complaint handling: from receipt to follow-up, with particular attention to responsiveness and respect for the rights of the people concerned;

Interactive Sessions for Effective Ownership!

Through case studies, discussions and role-playing exercises, beneficiaries gained a better understanding of their responsibilities and their role in protecting the most vulnerable.

Toward Lasting Ownership of Good Practices!

This training enabled beneficiaries of the PARCAN programme to acquire concrete skills to identify, report and prevent abuse within their communities
