PRO-PRO: CADEV-NIGER mobilizes stakeholders for better professional integration of young people in Niamey

In a context marked by youth unemployment, urban precarity, and challenges linked to migration and social vulnerability, vocational training appears more than ever as a strategic lever for inclusive development. It is in this spirit that the PRO-PRO Project: Vocational Training and Protection in Niger takes shape, implemented through CADEV-NIGER.

A project serving the Sustainable Development Goals

The PRO-PRO project aims to contribute to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 8 and 10, relating respectively to the promotion of decent work and the reduction of inequalities. It works to improve the economic, educational and social conditions of vulnerable Nigerien populations, in particular internally displaced persons and migrants in transit, with a focus on community development, prevention of human trafficking and combating exploitation.

A multi-stakeholder partnership for lasting impact

The project is led by the Italian NGO Terre de Vie, in a consortium with two national partners: NigerVert and CI2D – Centre d'Innovation et de Développement.
Within this framework, CADEV-NIGER, through Result 2 of the project, plays a key role in implementing activities in urban areas, particularly in Niamey.

Strengthening the resilience of vocational sectors

The specific objective of the PRO-PRO project is to strengthen the resilience of vocational sectors in the regions of Niamey, Agadez, Tahoua and Tillabéri. This ambition translates into:

• the strengthening of vocational training provision;
• aligning training with the real needs of the labor market;
• supporting young people toward integration and job placement;
• and strengthening the response capacities of the most vulnerable communities.

320 young people trained in Niamey

Starting in March 2026, CADEV-NIGER plans to support 320 young people aged 15 to 24, girls and boys, from urban communities in Niamey. These young people will receive qualifying vocational training in promising trades, including:

• sewing;
• professional housekeeping;
• refrigeration and air conditioning;
• hospitality.

These sectors were chosen for their employability potential, their accessibility to vulnerable youth and their capacity to generate sustainable income.

A launch morning for coordinated implementation

Before activities officially begin, CADEV-NIGER is organizing a project launch morning today, 22 January 2026, bringing together all the stakeholders involved.

The main objectives of this workshop are to:

• present the PRO-PRO project in its various components;
• share implementation strategies;
• validate the framework and tools for identifying beneficiaries;
• and ensure collective ownership of the project by all stakeholders.

Investing in youth to build the future

Through this initiative, CADEV-NIGER reaffirms its commitment to youth, quality vocational training and the socio-economic inclusion of vulnerable populations. The PRO-PRO project aims to be a concrete and lasting response to the challenges of youth employment, while contributing to social stability and the urban development of Niamey.
